The traveller wore down the road

as heavy as a dead man dragged across land on a travois

he were the scavenger of light

as it lay dying too on the long horizon to the west

chasing the sun in its strange circles tagged by the moon

he struggled toward a desolate future from a destiny past

and dissolute

his cargo silent within

like a tomb inside a boat

and that cargo was life

and it hummed with mystery
