lurches forward comforted by an amulet glittering like electricity in a storm he binds to his soul with implacable glue
it becomes his lodestar and when he falls backwards across the journey which is his life
to some other planet or fate
he makes references to ancient texts the amulet governs
he cannot read them but makes exhortations to the Gods which inhabit a dusty corner of his mind
his faith precedes him as a fool in a royal pageant prefigures all enlightenment
the Gods are sceptical and his entreaties fall on ears harsh as reality
the blinded man joins all of us in death
